Fruit-tree planting in schools

With spring in the air and National Tree week just behind us, Clonmel Allotments and Community Gardens Association have been pursuing one of their first projects for 2010. Thanks to Local Agenda 21 funding secured through South Tipperary County Council, the group has been able to supply native Irish varieties of fruit trees, from Irish Seedsavers, free of charge to local schools and residents’ groups. Four schools accepted the offer of trees: Loreto, Presentation primary, St. Olivers NS and St. Mary’s Parochial, as well as the residents in Cooleens Close and Ard na Sidhe. Association chairman Michael Murphy visited each to supply the trees, help plant them and give advice on their future care.

A couple of photos can be seen in the Gallery.
